SPC THAILAND, PRAYING THE ROSARY FOR PEACE IN THE WORLD
October is celebrated as Marian Month, marked by the Feast of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary on the 7th of October.
The SPCs all over the world honor our Blessed Mother, especially this month of October to pray for peace.
As we reflect on the significance of this month, we turn to our Blessed Mother, asking her to intercede on our behalf with her Son, Jesus Christ.
We pray for an end to the conflicts and wars, especially between Ukraine and Russia, Israel and Palestine, and for the many people around the world who are suffering from homelessness and uncertainty about their future, that they may be able to experience peace, healing, hope, and consolation.
Mother Mary, pray for us!
SPC DAEGU, SOUTH KOREA – "ONE COMMUNITY, MANY STORIES: A DAY HONORING MIGRANTS' JOURNEYS"
The SPC Daegu Province came together to organize a day of connection and support for migrants from all walks of life. The migrants were welcomed with open arms, treated like family, and shown that they were not forgotten.
Through shared experiences and compassionate interactions, the migrants felt a deep sense of belonging and support.
By showing them acceptance, understanding, and love, the community aims to uplift and empower the migrants, providing them the strength and resilience to continue their journeys.
Let us pray and support the migrants and the refugees whenever we meet them.
POPE FRANCIS MADE A HISTORIC VISIT TO EAST TIMOR, A PREDOMINANTLY CATHOLIC COUNTRY.
Accompanying him was Cardinal Tagle, who took the opportunity to meet with Filipino missionaries serving in the country. The visit highlighted the strong Catholic faith of East Timor and reinforced the ties between the Vatican and the local community.
East Timor, officially known as Timor-Leste, gained its independence in 2002 after a long and painful struggle against Indonesian occupation. The predominantly Catholic population, which constitutes over 97% of the country’s 1.3 million people, views the Pope’s visit as a source of great pride and spiritual significance. This event marks a major milestone in the nation’s journey toward healing and reconciliation after decades of conflict and political unrest.
Pope Francis’ visit will serve as a celebration of the country’s resilience and the enduring strength of its faith. The Catholic Church has long played an essential role in East Timor’s fight for independence, providing both moral and humanitarian support during the most difficult years. Pope Francis’ visit acknowledges the Church’s contributions and is expected to further reinforce the Church’s role in the nation’s development.
SPC HANOI, VIETNAM: BRAVING THE STORMS TO AID FLOOD VICTIMS
Typhoon Yagi, Asia’s strongest storm this year, hit northern Vietnam with powerful winds and heavy rain, causing widespread damage and collapsing a major bridge. With the Red River at a 20-year high, thousands in Hanoi have been evacuated as floodwaters inundate the streets. The storm has claimed at least 179 lives.
In response to the crisis, our sisters in Hanoi have come together to support the flood victims, pooling their resources to provide aid and relief. Despite the risks, their selfless efforts to assist those in need are a testament to their courage and compassion. Let us keep the flood victims and our brave sisters in our thoughts and prayers, hoping for their safety and a swift recovery for the affected communities.
SPC GENERALATE STUDENTS COLLABORATE TO PREPARE MEALS FOR THE POOR IN ROME
During this summer break, the SPC Generalate students currently studying in Rome joined forces with other volunteer groups to help prepare meals for the city’s poor.
This initiative was led by the Kkottongnae Congregation, a Korean religious community whose name means ” Flower’s Town.” The congregation is known for its commitment to serving the marginalized, and this collaborative effort provided an opportunity for the SPC young sisters to contribute to this meaningful cause, bringing hope and nourishment to those in need in Rome.
SPC SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – CELEBRATED FOUNDATION ANNIVERSARY OF THE LANDING OF
THE FIRST SISTERS IN KOREA
SPC Seoul recently celebrated the foundation anniversary of the arrival of the first sisters in Korea. This significant event pays tribute to these early missionaries’ pioneering spirit and unwavering dedication.
This month’s recollection theme, “The Detachment of Mother La Croix Binet,” deeply resonated with the foundation anniversaries of both Seoul and Daegu, South Korea.
Mother La Croix, who lived up to her name, was the Superior General of the Congregation during the challenging period of the Secularization Laws (1887–1907), which expelled all sisters from their roles as school teachers and hospital workers. Lay personnel replaced them, and religious objects were removed from institutions. During this difficult time, Mother La Croix initiated the tradition of writing circular letters to the Congregation. She penned 18 circulars to inform, exhort, encourage, and keep the sisters focused on Christ despite being insulted and harassed by anti-clerical officials. Their patients, students, and parents wept at their expulsion.
Mother La Croix also understood God’s abiding love for the Congregation. The sisters’ tears and pains in France led to new foundations in Korea (1888), Thailand (1898), China (1900), Laos and the Philippines (1904).
This foundation anniversary celebration in Korea fittingly honored the legacy and sacrifice of the first sisters. May our Lord continue to bless us abundantly with good and strong vocations for our mission.
SPC GENERALATE, ROME: VIETNAMESE SISTERS’ RETREAT AT THE CASA
Recently, 16 Vietnamese sisters from Rocca di Neto, Crotone, and the Generalate gathered at the casa for a retreat. The retreat was conducted by Fr. Joseph Phan Trọng Quang, MF, a member of the General Council of the Missionaries of Faith.
SPC PHILIPPINES: Assistance for Typhoon Carina Survivors: A Collaborative Effort
In response to the devastation caused by Typhoon Carina in Bagong Silangan, Quezon City, the Renewalists and Our Lady of Chartres Convent in Antipolo, Provincial House, swiftly united their efforts in July and August 2024. Their response was coordinated with the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Team (DRRMT) of the SPC Philippine Province, led by Sr. Ma. Consuelo Celis, Sr Marie Rosanne Mallillin, Sr. Ma. Evangeline Anastacio and renewalists.
Sr. Emily Louise del Castillo, SPC, the Provincial Superior of the Philippine Province, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all those who generously contributed, both in cash and in kind, to support the affected communities. Their prompt response and compassionate efforts exemplify the spirit of solidarity and commitment to helping those in need during challenging times.
SPC THAILAND: LAUNCHED CATECHISTS ON TOUR
With the theme: Be All To All, the SPC sisters launched an outreach project, “CATECHISTS ON TOUR,” at the Princess Ubonrat School in Chiang Dao, Chiang Mai province, northern Thailand. This free school serves 14 ethnic groups, providing a safe haven for hill tribe children at risk of human trafficking and those affected with HIV.
The school’s diverse student body fosters a harmonious learning environment rooted in the love of Jesus. Through Catechism lessons and activities that promote teamwork and cultural exchange, students learn to respect and appreciate each other’s traditions, fostering empathy and inclusivity. This inclusive approach ensures all students, regardless of their background, are welcomed and supported in their education. It values every student, provides fair learning opportunities, and makes necessary accommodations for effective access to mainstream education.

SPC WYOMING PARTICIPATED IN THE NATIONAL EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS IN INDIANAPOLIS
Our sisters in Wyoming recently participated in the National Eucharistic Congress held in Indianapolis. Pope Francis emphasized the significance of the event, stating that the National Eucharistic Congress was a crucial moment in the life of the Church in the United States. Each day of the Congress is designed to foster a transformative encounter with Jesus, welcoming individuals from all stages of their faith journey.
This is a pivotal moment in both American history and the legacy of the Catholic Church, as it is the first National Eucharistic Congress in 83 years in America.
SPC EAST TIMOR – YOUNG SISTERS DOING APOSTOLIC WORK IN TURISCAI
The young sisters in East Timor are devotedly carrying out their apostolic mission in Turiscai, a picturesque mountainous region. Nestled amidst stunning landscapes, Turiscai offers a serene and inspiring backdrop for their dedicated work and spiritual endeavors.
SPC CANADA CELEBRATES RELIGIOUS MILESTONES:
PERPETUAL PROFESSIONS AND A 70TH ANNIVERSARY
SPC Canada recently celebrated two significant events: the Perpetual Vows of three young sisters and the 70th anniversary of Sr. Monique Chrétien’s consecrated life.
Perpetual Vows of Three Young Sisters
Sister Marie Bich Nhieu, Sister Anne Thu Hien, and Sister Anne Luat made their Perpetual Vows of Chastity, Poverty, and Obedience in a ceremony led by Sr. Brigitte Savage, Provincial Superior of Canada. This marked their lifelong commitment to their faith and the SPC community.
Sr. Monique Chrétien’s 70th Anniversary
Sr. Monique Chrétien celebrated her 70th anniversary of consecrated life, recognizing her seven decades of dedicated service and inspiration to the community.
The celebrations were marked by joy, gratitude, and a Eucharistic celebration with songs, prayers, and shared stories, highlighting the community’s unity and These events exemplify the mission and enduring spirit of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres in Canada.
SPC CONGO: THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM, THE SACRAMENT OF JESUS
Recently, the parish of Mvouti celebrated the sacrament of Baptism for many of its youngest and adult members, marking an important milestone in their spiritual journeys.
In a touching display of faith, the sacrament of Baptism was also administered to an elderly grandfather in Congo who was paralyzed and unable to speak due to the paralysis of his tongue. Despite these challenges, his determination to embrace the Catholic faith shone through. Regular visits from our young sisters, accompanied by Sr. Elisabeth, helped prepare him for this sacred moment.
Even though his wife is of Protestant faith, the grandfather’s desire to become Catholic was unwavering. The parish priest, together with the sisters, visited his home frequently to ensure he was ready to receive the sacrament. This profound commitment to faith, despite personal and physical obstacles, underscores the unifying and transformative power of Baptism.
SPC Thailand – Educational Summer Camp
St. Joseph Convent in Bangkok, Thailand recently held a series of seminars and educational camps aimed at enriching the knowledge and skills of their teachers and students.
These events focused on deepening their understanding of the SPC Charism and reinforcing Catholic Christian values. Through these engaging and informative sessions, participants were able to cultivate a stronger connection to their faith and the guiding principles of the SPC community.

The festivities commenced with a Mass celebrated by Monsignor José Alfredo, Bishop of the Diocese of Mananjary.
Despite the rain, all planned activities went ahead, including program presentations, sports events, street parades, and indoor picnics. Visitors, teachers, staff, health personnel, and students alike enjoyed the celebrations, making it a memorable occasion for everyone involved.
VISIT OF ETHIOPIAN BISHOPS IN THE GENERALATE
Recently, the Generalate was honored to welcome two distinguished visitors from Ethiopia: the outgoing Bishop Musie Ghebreghiorghis, O.F.M. Cap., Bishop of the Emdeber Eparchy, and his successor, Bishop Lukas Teshome Fikre Woldetensae, the newly appointed Coadjutor Bishop of the Emdeber Eparchy. Their visit is part of the traditional Ad Limina visit with Pope Francis.
INSTALLATION OF SR. EMILY LOUISE DEL CASTILLO AS 13th PROVINCIAL SUPERIOR
OF PHILIPPINE PROVINCE
Sr. Emily Louise del Castillo was recently installed as the 13th Superior Provincial of the Philippine Province. She is currently serving as the First Assistant to the General Council. She will complete her term next year, after the General Chapter, and simultaneously will assume office as Provincial Superior.
MOTHER GENERAL VISITED CROTONE AND ROCCA DI NETO
Mother Ma. Goretti visited our two communities in the Southern part of Italy: Crotone and Rocca di Neto. During her visit, together with the sisters who are missioned in these places, she was able to meet and interact with the parishioners in their homes.
Crotone is a city in Calabria, southern Italy, on the Ionian Sea. Founded by the Greeks in 718 BC, it was known as Kroton during the Magna Graecia period and was a key center of ancient Greek culture. The city features notable historical sites, including the Castle of Charles I with its stunning views. Crotone is also the birthplace of the famous Greek philosopher Pythagoras.
Rocca di Neto is a town in the province of Crotone, Calabria, southern Italy. It’s near Crotone, and you can travel between them by bus, taxi, or car. The town is crossed by the Neto River and is known for its scenic main street.
SPC Generalate: Sr. Teresa Phan Cuong Recently Completed Her Licentiate In The Theology Of Liturgy
At The Pontifical University Of The Holy Cross (Pontificia Universita’ Della Santa Croce), Rome
Sr. Teresa Phan Cuong, from SPC Saigon, Vietnam recently completed her licentiate in the Theology of Liturgy at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. Her thesis, titled “The Rite of Institution of the Ministry of the Catechist,” explores the liturgical and theological dimensions of this significant ministry. Her work sheds light on the historical development, current practices, and future potential of the catechist’s role in the Church. This field reflects the deep commitment to enriching the liturgical life and pastoral mission of the Church.
SPC FRANCE: 300TH ANNIVERSARY OF SPC PRESENCE IN MEULAN
To commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres’ presence in Meulan, France, the sisters organized a show featuring the talents of over 40 students and teachers. The event beautifully retraced the storied journey and contributions of the Sisters in Meulan, highlighting their enduring legacy and impact on the community.

SPIRITUAL RENEWAL AT THE SPC GENERALATE
A 42-participant spiritual renewal program is currently underway at the Generalate, bringing together a rich tapestry of cultures from eleven countries.
The program began on May 2nd and will culminate in France on June 11, 2024. Participants from Antilles-Guyane, Cameroon, France, Hong Kong, Korea, Madagascar, the Philippines, Switzerland, Thailand, and Vietnam will embark on a shared journey of spiritual growth.

Recently, three sisters participated in the formation of the new major superiors held here in the Generalate in Rome.
They are Sr. My-Lan Michaela NGUYEN – District Superior of Switzerland, Sr. Lucia SONG Kyoung-mee – Superior of the Province of Daegu and Sr. Emily Louise DEL CASTILLO – Superior of the Province of the Philippines.

Students, Faculty and Staff of St. Paul's Convent School visited SPC Generalate in Rome
A group of 80 students, along with their teachers and staff, from St. Paul’s Convent School in Hong Kong visited our Generalate during their Europe Music Tour in Rome.
Witnessing the beauty and significance of the Generalate was a remarkable experience for them, and we’re glad to have provided them with such an opportunity.
